Metal Parts Machining

In Leland Technology, one of the most important and biggest advantages of CNC machined tools for metal processing is that the CNC can perform multiple operations in one work cycle. In this way, the CNC turning and milling center can be programmed to perform surface grinding, Drilling, and milling, and everything can be integrated into one program.

CNC Machining Quality Control and Inspection Support

Quality control for CNC machined parts starts before cutting begins. Leland reviews drawings, CAD files, materials, tolerances and inspection requirements so the production route matches the way the part will be used. This helps reduce tolerance risk, finishing defects and communication gaps between quotation, machining, inspection and shipping.

Our quality support is practical and project-specific. Some parts need simple dimensional checks before shipment, while others require critical dimension reports, material certificates, surface finish checks or first article inspection. The goal is to define the right inspection level for the part instead of adding paperwork that does not help the buyer make a decision.

Drawing Review and Quality Planning

  • Review 2D drawings, STEP files, tolerances, datum references, threads and surface finish notes before production.
  • Flag tight tolerance or unclear inspection points during quotation, especially when the part has multiple setups or post-machining finishing.
  • Confirm material grade, heat treatment, plating, anodizing, passivation or other secondary process requirements before machining starts.
  • Plan critical dimensions and functional features that should receive additional in-process or final inspection attention.

In-Process and Final Inspection

For precision machining projects, in-process checks help catch issues before a batch is complete. Operators and inspectors can check key dimensions, threads, hole positions, flatness, concentricity, surface finish and visual condition based on the drawing and the production method. Final inspection then confirms the finished parts before packing.

  • Incoming material and certificate review when required by the project.
  • First piece and in-process checks for critical dimensions.
  • Dimensional inspection using suitable gauges, measuring tools and CMM support when needed.
  • Visual review for burrs, scratches, dents, coating damage and packing condition.
  • Final inspection before shipment, including part count and labeling checks.

Inspection Reports and Quality Documents

When the buyer needs documentation, Leland can support inspection reports and manufacturing documents based on the drawing and order requirements. Typical documents may include dimensional inspection reports, material certificates, surface finish notes, photos, packing information and shipment records. Please send the required format or acceptance standard with the RFQ when possible.

  • Dimensional inspection reports for selected or critical dimensions.
  • Material certificate support for specified metal or plastic grades.
  • First article inspection support when the order requires formal approval before batch production.
  • Photos of finished parts, packaging and labels when requested.
  • Quality feedback and corrective communication if a drawing issue or production risk is found.

What to Send for Quality Review

To help our engineers quote and inspect correctly, include a 2D PDF drawing, STEP or STP file, material grade, finish requirement, quantity and any critical inspection notes. If your company has a standard inspection template, AQL requirement or supplier quality checklist, include it with the RFQ so it can be reviewed before pricing and lead time are confirmed.

For process planning, you may also review our CNC machining capabilities, material selection guide and value added service support. When you are ready, send your drawings through the online CNC machining quote page.

Quality Control FAQ

Can you provide inspection reports with machined parts?

Yes. Inspection reports can be prepared for critical dimensions or agreed inspection points. The required report level should be confirmed before production because it affects inspection time and document preparation.

Can you inspect tight tolerance or GD&T features?

Yes, but the drawing must clearly define the tolerance, datum structure and acceptance method. If a tolerance is risky for the material, geometry or finishing process, our team will raise questions before production instead of guessing.

Can you supply material certificates?

Material certificate support is available for many specified metals and engineering plastics. Include the exact grade and certificate requirement in the RFQ so procurement and inspection can confirm availability.

What happens if a quality risk is found before production?

We communicate the issue and suggest practical options, such as tolerance clarification, material adjustment, machining sequence changes, fixture planning or inspection plan changes. The part is not pushed into production until the key requirement is clear.
