How to Get an Accurate CNC Machining Quote

The fastest way to receive a practical quote is to send the information an engineer needs to check material, tolerance, machining difficulty and inspection requirements. A complete RFQ also helps us suggest lower-risk and lower-cost manufacturing options before production starts.

    Files and Details to Include

    • 3D CAD file, preferably STEP or STP
    • 2D drawing in PDF format with tolerances, threads and surface finish notes
    • Material grade or preferred material alternatives
    • Quantity, target lead time and expected repeat order volume
    • Surface finish requirements such as anodizing, plating, polishing or passivation
    • Critical dimensions, inspection report needs and assembly requirements

    Quote Review Process

    1. Upload your drawing, STEP file and project notes through the quote form.
    2. Our engineering team reviews manufacturability, tolerance risk, material availability and finishing requirements.
    3. We send pricing, lead time and any technical questions needed before production.
    4. After approval, we confirm production details, inspection requirements and shipping arrangements.

    Confidentiality and Drawing Protection

Customer drawings, CAD files and project details are used only for quotation and manufacturing review. If your project requires an NDA or controlled file handling, mention it in the RFQ message so we can follow the correct process from the beginning.

    Quote FAQ

Can you quote from only a STEP file?

Yes, but a 2D drawing is recommended when tolerances, threads, surface finish or inspection points are important. If only a STEP file is available, include notes about the functional surfaces and critical dimensions.

Can you suggest a lower-cost process?

Yes. When the design allows it, we can suggest tolerance adjustments, material alternatives, finishing options or a different process such as CNC machining, sheet metal fabrication, die casting, injection molding or 3D printing.

What makes a quote slower to review?

Missing drawings, unclear material grades, very tight tolerances without datum references, special inspection requirements or incomplete finishing notes can slow the quotation process. Adding these details upfront helps us respond more accurately.
